Psycho-Educational Assessment
A psychoeducational assessment is a process in which a psychologist collects information to provide insight into a child’s cognitive abilities, academic strengths and areas of challenge, social/emotional functioning, and attention/executive functioning.
Psychologists at The Village YXE provide diagnostic assessment services for:
Learning challenges (e.g. Specific Learning Disabilities such as Dyslexia)
Attention challenges (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder)
Intellectual/Cognitive challenges (Intellectual Developmental Disorder)
Giftedness
Non-diagnostic screens for social/emotional and behavioural concerns (e.g. anxiety, depression, executive functioning)

Psychoeducational Assessment for Children and Adolescents Age 6+
Hi there, I’m Amanda (she/her)! I’m a Registered Psychologist with nearly a decade of experience providing psychological services in schools, and a passion for working with children/youth and their families to ensure that every child not only understands their unique brain but knows that who they are is worth celebrating. I specialize in the identification of learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, ADHD, and other challenges that may be impacting a child’s ability to perform to their potential in school and life. I also offer diagnostic autism assessment services and am deeply passionate about helping families understand their child’s neurotype.
Who I am as a professional is deeply intertwined with who I am as a mother. I am the proud parent of a uniquely perfect child with limb differences, multiple food allergies, and a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder. Since the birth of my son, I have been invited to learn and grow in ways that I never would have otherwise. I was given the humbling experience of seeing “what I do” as a psychologist from the opposite lens… I went from being the “professional” to vulnerably sitting in the “parent chair”. I became an advocate for my own child’s needs in addition to the needs of the children I have the privilege of working with. My experience of motherhood has made me a better psychologist and a better human, and for that I am eternally grateful.
‘Uniquely Me’ is about celebrating neurodiversity and challenging stereotypes about being 'different.' It’s about recognizing that brains come in many forms and that disability stems from a mismatch between individuals and environments—not from the individual themselves. By recognizing this, we can advocate for more inclusive, flexible spaces where all children can thrive and succeed to their potential.
I understand that considering psychological services for your child can feel daunting. If you are a parent who is contemplating psychoeducational assessment or autism assessment services, I see you. I will hold space for wherever you are in your journey to understand your child. I will meet you and your child with empathy and understanding.
If there is one thing that I can promise you, it’s this: Your child is the same person when they walk in my office as when they walk out. The only thing that will change is your level of understanding of who they are and how you can support them.
I look forward to working with your family!

Psychoeducational Assessment for Children and Adolescents Age 6+
Hello! I'm Katie (she/her) a Registered Psychologist with the Saskatchewan College of Psychologists. I hold my Authorized Practice Endorsement (APE), which allows me to provide assessment and diagnosis services. I specialize in psychoeducational assessments and identifying learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, ADHD, and other challenges that may hinder a child's ability to learn.
l earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Saskatchewan in 2011, followed by my Master's degree in School and Counselling Psychology in 2014. I became a Registered Psychologist in 2016 after completing my licencing examinations and supervised hours.
The majority of my career has been providing psychological services within schools for children, youth, and their families. It is always a privilege to assist a child with their educational journey and diverse learning needs. I prioritize creating a safe and trusting environment where your child feels seen and valued.
As a mom myself to young children I understand the endless worry and stress that goes along with being a parent. If only each kid came with a manual! Navigating every age and stage can bring challenges and sometimes you have more questions than answers. I am here to help, listen, and collaborate. I hope my psychoeducational assessment can foster further understanding about your child, as well as the ways they can be supported to reach their potential in school and life.
I am thrilled to be providing assessments within the The Village YXE where inclusiveness, support, and diversity is celebrated! Connect with me through the Village YXE or k.schafferpsychology@gmail.com.
